After growing up in Tennessee, Matt Martin moved to Chicago to study Trombone Performance at DePaul University with Mark Fisher of the Lyric Opera and Charlie Vernon of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Since leaving school, Matt has performed with symphonies across the Midwest including the South Bend, Kenosha, and Battle Creek Symphonies. In addition, Matt has performed a range of styles from classical symphonic works to big band jazz to musicals in the Chicagoland area. Matt is also a founding member of the Tune Squad Brass Quintet, a burgeoning chamber music group dedicated to expanding repertoire and performance opportunities for chamber music. Aside from performing, Matt is a Low Brass Instructor at the People’s Music School and has a growing private studio. Most recently, Matt participated in a world premiere for Jim Stephenson’s “Glissin’ Up”, as a member of the solo trombone quartet in Nashville, TN. As a teacher, Matt believes music should be fun first and foremost and can enrich one’s life. Brass instruments are instruments of discovery, control, then efficiency and Matt loves to share his passion for music with everyone.
